Big new step from Facebook.
Facebook announced yesterday,it’s testing a new feature called profile videos, which will let users upload seven-second clips instead of a static avatar.
Facebook Said that more than 4 Billion visit profile pictures per day, and they are continually looking for ways to make profiles the best place for people to curate their online identities and connect with others.
Facebook said also, “We’re starting to test all of these features to a small number of iPhone users in the UK and California, and we’ll be rolling them out to more people soon.”
A) 7-Second Looping Video As A Profile Picture
People want to be creative with their profile artwork, and Facebook wants to let them. That’s why it will soon be allowing users to upload their own 7-second video as a profile pic. The video will loop and autoplay with sound if clicked. If it isn’t clicked, it will still autoplay and loop without sound. Every time you change your profile pic a post is created. That too will feature the looping video.
B) iPhone users in California and the U.K. will be among the first to be able to upload short looping videos as their profile photos, starting at 11:00 a.m. PT/2:00 p.m. ET. The feature is expected to roll out to Facebook’s larger user base in the near future. Facebook said the move is a part of an effort to help people further greater express their personalities and creativity on the site.
C) Facebook start rolling out the ability to set a temporary version of your profile picture that reverts back to your previous profile picture at a specified time. Want to support your team in the week leading up to the big game, commemorate a special milestone like a birthday or vacation or show off a great #tbt picture? Now you can create a temporary profile picture specifically for those moments and events.
D) Easier Controls For The About Section, Including A New Bio Section.
Facebook will be adding the ability for users to control the privacy of the About section of their profiles. If it’s “public”, others will see it at the top of a profile in a very obvious place – not somewhere in a user’s profile. Users will be given a Bio section to describe themselves in 100 characters
E) Design Improvements to Your Mobile Profile.
Along with these new profile features, we’ve made some design changes to mobile profile that improve the profile layout and better present information about you and your friends in a more visually engaging way. We’re moving your profile picture and video to literally put you front-and-center on your profile. Profile pictures are now centered, and we’ve made them bigger to give you more real estate to show off what you can do with our new creative tools.
